Slate-Crete

Slate-Crete is a slate looking concrete finish that comes in a range of various patterns. After the concrete is screeded and trowelled the base colour is then applied. It is not unusual to apply more than one colour. eg Salmon (base colour) and up to two other colours eg. Terracotta and Yellow to obtain a certain required look.

When the surface is ready a release agent is thrown gently over the trowelled concrete and is ready for stamping. This is done for two reasons;

  • The release agent acts as a waterproofing compound between the stamp and the concrete.
  • It tones the base colour or colours for the required result.

The release agents come in 4 colours and can alter the look of the colour topping depending on the release used. For example a Yellow base colour with;

  • Grey release - This will tone down the yellow colour.
  • Light Brown release - Alternatively this would lift that particular colour.
  • Marigold release - This would give even greater contrast making yellow look brighter.

After curing, the concrete is pressure blasted with water to remove excess release agent. This is very important if the sealer is to have optimum effect.

Two coats of an acrylic clear sealer are applied with the second coat containing a slip resistant powder.

The sealer is to protect the surface from staining and to enhance the colour.
